The Mexican 50 Peso “Centenario” is one of the great classics of world gold — a large, impressive coin first struck in 1921 to mark the centennial of Mexico’s independence, bearing the Winged Victory (El Ángel) before Mexico City’s twin volcanoes. Each coin contains 1.2057 troy ounces of gold (.900 fine, 41.67 g gross) — more gold than any standard modern bullion coin — and typically trades at a modest premium for its metal.
